With Northern Virginia being one of the wealthiest areas in our nation, it’s surprising to hear that there are a significant number of homeless veterans in DC. As of early 2023, there are over 500+ homeless veterans that are being tracked and supported. There are more out there, and we need to locate and help them!
The race is organized with community partners to raise money to provide veterans in DC suffering from homelessness. What makes this race incredibly unique is that after the race, all participants will have the opportunity to assemble hot lunches and winter survival kits for our homeless Veterans in DC.
Many of these homeless have no shelter to seek during the winter months, so they rely on our generosity for a hot meal and a winter survival kit. A winter survival kit is a backpack filled with warm gloves, socks, hats, scarves, a blanket, bottled water, toiletries, a Seven-Eleven gift card, and nonperishable food items. All of the meals packed after the race will be delivered that day into DC. The winter survival kits will be disbursed throughout the winter months.
Over the last four years with our races we had over 2,300 people participate in the race and walk, donated 145,000 meals and raised $272,000. We know together we can do even bigger things this year!
We cannot do this without the help of sponsors in Northern Virginia.
